Recent developments in AI keep blowing my mind! In my previous article Everyone Can Be an Artist with AI, I talked about how great AI is at generating art. Besides creating art, AI can also do other incredible things like coding, writing songs and poems, creating interview questions and much more. OpenAI's GPT-3 really took what AI can do to an unprecedented level. I guarantee that after reading this article you’ll be blown away by the mind-blowing things that AI can already do for us today!

So, what is GPT-3?

GPT-3, short for Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3, is an AI language model developed by OpenAI that uses artificial intelligence to produce human-like text. It is the 3rd-generation language prediction model in the GPT-n series and the successor to GPT-2. GPT-n series (currently GPT, GPT-2, GPT-3) are developed by OpenAI, an AI research company that was founded in 2015 by Elon Musk, Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, Ilya Sutskever, Wojciech Zaremba and John Schulman. The mission of OpenAI is to promote and develop friendly AI that benefits all of humanity.

GPT-3 was introduced in May 2020. It's a big leap from GPT-2. The quality of the text generated by GPT-3 is so high that it can be difficult to determine whether or not it was written by a human. Microsoft announced that it licensed "exclusive" use of GPT-3 in 2020 after GPT-3 was released. So currently only Microsoft has access to GPT-3's model. The rest of us cannot access the underlying model, but can use GPT-3's public API to receive output.

Top 3 Mind-blowing Things that GPT-3 Can Do

GPT-3 really took what AI can do to an unprecedented level. It can do so many incredible things for us today! In this video below I'll show you a demo of the top 3 mind-blowing things that GPT-3 can do. You'll see how great it is!

No.1: GPT-3 can code. It can translate natural language to code and vice versa. Check out the demo in the video above of GPT-3 writing SQL for me. It can also translate from one programming language to another, explain a piece of complicated code, fix code, or answer questions about how to use a programming language.

No.2: GPT-3 can generate songs and poems. As you can see in the demo video above, GPT-3 can write songs and poems in language with fluency almost equivalent to a human.

No.3: GPT-3 can create interview questions. If you read the interview questions GPT-3 generated for me in the video after I provided a prompt "write me a list of 5 interview questions to interview a management consultant", you can see that those 5 questions are pretty solid interview questions. If you are a hiring manager or work in HR, you should definitely give it a try!

As you can see from the demo video, GPT-3 is shockingly impressive. Playing with GPT-3 made me feel like I could see the future, a future where AI could do so much more for us. Per an article on OpenAI's website in March 2021, since the launch of GPT-3, more than 300 applications are using GPT-3, and tens of thousands of developers around the globe are building on OpenAI's platform. I'm sure we will see more and more applications of GPT-3.

We should also be mindful that a tool this powerful has both benefits and risks. The good use ranges from powering better chatbots to helping people code. Bad use can be like powering better bots for fake news, or helping kids cheat on their homework. Promoting and developing friendly AI that benefits all of humanity is very important.
