In the ever-evolving landscape of AI, a fierce rivalry has been reignited between two tech giants, Microsoft and Google. The battleground? The integration of AI into their Search platforms. It all began in February 2023 when Microsoft boldly infused Bing with OpenAI's ChatGPT capabilities. Not to be outdone, Google swiftly responded with the announcement of their own AI chatbot, Bard, during the same month, and made it available for the public to join the waitlist for trials just a month later. Since then, Bard has been continuously evolving, and in this article, we'll delve into some of its major features.
1. Bard has real-time internet access.
Like the new Microsoft Bing, Bard has access to the internet in real-time, so it can generate output based on more recent data. ChatGPT or GPT-4 is is not connected with the internet, so they can only pull data from their training dataset. GPT-4's training dataset is limited to data collected before 2022.
2. Bard can converse in more than 40 languages.
In Jul 2023, Google added the ability for Bard to converse in 43 additional languages, like Spanish, Arabic, and Chinese. Google also made Bard available across much of Europe and in Brazil. Here is a demo showcasing Bard's Chinese skills. As a native Chinese speaker, I can tell you Bard's Chinese skills are impressive!
3. Bard can take both images and text as inputs.
Example 1: I asked Bard to interpret a Bison image. Bard was able to reveal many details about this image. This could be a great use case for education.

Example 2: I asked Bard to improve a T-shirt design. Bard gave pretty good suggestions. If you are a product designer or manager, you could try to upload design images and ask Bard to help you brainstorm.

4. Bard allows users to share a link for the output or export into Google Docs or Gmail draft.
Bard allows you to share the output by creating a public link or export into Google Docs or Gmail draft. You could find "Share" , "Export to Docs", and "Draft in Gmail" at the bottom of Bard output (see below for how to find this feature).

5. Bard gives users options to modify responses.
You could modify the response by making it shorter, longer, simpler, more casual or professional (see below for how to find this feature).

For example, when I click "Shorter" for Bard's output regarding how to improve the T-shirt design, here is the shorter answer from Bard:

In conclusion, Bard's language abilities stand out as the most impressive aspect. As a work in progress, it's certain that we can anticipate a plethora of exciting features coming to Bard in the near future.
